Article Availability
Your subscription determines which articles the API can return to you: how far back the archive goes, and how soon a
newly published article becomes available. This applies to both the Search endpoint and
the Top Headlines endpoint, and it is what bounds the from and to parameters.
| Plan | Historical archive | Data freshness |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Last 30 days | 12-hour delay |
| Essential, Business, Enterprise | Since 2020 | Real-time |
See the pricing for the full comparison of the plans.
What Happens Outside Your Range
Asking for a period outside your plan is not an error. The API returns no article for the part you cannot reach, so an
empty articles array is a normal result rather than a failure.
If you are getting fewer articles than you expect, check the totalArticles property of the response, see
JSON Response. It reports how many articles matched your request in total.
